If you thought Valve's switch from Internet Explorer to WebKit for its <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/uiupdate/">new beta version of digital distribution platform Steam</a> -- or the semi-irrefutable <a href="http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1157656">hints of OSX compatibility within</a> -- were just coincidence, this morning's latest viral blast should seal the deal.
Just days after ramping up a fantastic campaign <a href="http://www.boingboing.net/2010/03/01/not-a-lie-valve-upda.html">hinting at new developments with their <em>Portal</em></a>, the developer let loose a set of images sent not only to games press like <a href="http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/03/03/valves-big-fat-hint-steam-for-macs/">RockPaperShotgun</a> and <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/valve-teases-forthcoming-announcement">Eurogamer</a>, but <a href="http://www.macrumors.com/2010/03/03/valve-teases-upcoming-half-life-release-for-mac/">MacRumors</a>, as well. With an Apple-logo-emblazoned <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Freeman">Gordon Freeman</a>, iPod-ad-silhouetted <em>Team Fortress 2</em> Heavy, and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Get_a_Mac">John Hodgman/Justin Long</a> dual-turret montage, the message is pretty clear.
Below is a hi-res collection of all the images released thus far. <br><p>OK Go shot a fantastic Rube Goldberg contraption video for their new song "This Too Shall Pass." The <a href="http://www.make-digital.com/make/vol16/?pg=46">MAKE team race car</a> makes an appearance at around 3:00 minutes into the video.
<p>The contraption was built by <a href="http://syynlabs.com/">Syyn Labs</a>. Adam Sadowsky of Syyn Labs wrote:
<blockquote>The requirements were that it had to be interesting, not "overbuilt" or too technology-heavy, and easy to follow. The machine also had to be built on a shoestring budget, synchronize with beats and lyrics in the music and end on time over a 3.5 minute song, play a part of the song, and be filmed in one shot. To make things more challenging still, the space chosen was divided into two floors and the machine would use both.</blockquote>
